What is 21CLD?

Students around the world need advanced skills to succeed in the globalised, knowledge based world of today. 21st Century Learning Design, or 21CLD, professional development helps teachers design lessons and learning activities to build students’ 21st century skills. The program is based on rubrics developed and tested in one of the largest ever international studies of 21st Century Skills - Innovative Teaching and Learning (ITL) Research project

The 21CLD materials are presented in an easy to use, highly interactive way in this app. Using this app will help educators identify and understand the opportunities that learning activities give students to build 21st century skills.

A learning activity is any task that students do as part of their school related work. It can be an exercise that students complete in one class period or an extended project that takes place both in and outside of school. The 21CLD rubrics incorporate a research-based methodology for coding learning activities to ensure you are embedding 21st century skills in your teaching practices.


Mastery Learning and 21CLD

This begins a new era for me as I begin to get my mind around the concept of 21CLD. I can very much see how the enrichment tasks that have been used in my current program will need to be adapted, modified and replaced. Students need access to Mathematics learning that is placed in the context of the world that they live in. The Mastery Learning Model I set out on my main site outlines how a teacher would use digital technologies to ensure students understand the core content outlined in the Australian Curriculum. The next task is to ensure that they can work collaboratively together to place these skills in a real world context. This model seeks to tie together the best of Bloom's Mastery Learning, Taxonomy of educational objectives and 21CLD to ensure that all students have the chance to be engaged, excited and passionate about their schooling experience. This site will soon contain units of work coupled with the relevent resources, and what indicators they point to within a 21CLD framework while also showing how key curriculum priorities within the Australian Curriculum will be met by the amazing students in my classrooms.
